Real Madrid’s ears will have pricked up when they heard the news that long-term target Kylian Mbappé had been left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s pre-season tour of Japan. However, their stance remains the same, with the Spaniards believing that the 24-year.old will see out the last year of his contract in Paris, which expires on 30 June 2024. Los Blancos are not planning on making a move for the player the summer, with no meetings scheduled between representatives of the two clubs.

Real Madrid’s Mbappé transfer strategy

Madrid’s “Mbappé plan” hasn’t changed. They want the Frenchman, who has now also been linked with Chelsea and Al Hilal, to move to Estadio Santiago Bernabéu for free in the summer of 2024, rather than spending what could be up to €400 million (circa $445 million) now. Not because they don’t have the funds available, which they do, but because they feel they are in currently in a position of strength, which favours playing the waiting game. After all, it is PSG who face being the biggest losers if Mbappé opts not to extend his deal beyond next summer. As a result, the LaLiga giants are prepared to sit tight.

When can Madrid offer the PSG star a contract?

Mbappé isn’t expected to instigate a move to the Spanish capital either, with clubs unable to offer contracts to potential new signings until six months before their current one expires. In other words, the two parties will be unable to hold “official” talks until January. So, for now, it’s time for Real Madrid to sit back and see how things unfold.
