What Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich has done will go down in the history books of German soccer – and of the game itself. This team is beginning to define an era and, although Uli Hoeneß, the Bavarian club’s senior power broker, insisted that titles are what matter most, this is still a chapter that brings joy to the fans. The Belgian coach’s side has just shattered a 54-year-old record through sheer firepower and talent.

It was a record that seemed almost untouchable. Hansi Flick’s Bayern came close with 97 goals, but the 101 scored by the team of Gerd Müller, Franz Beckenbauer and Uli Hoeneß in the 1971-72 season looked impossible to match, let alone surpass. Then came the finishing of Harry Kane, the efficiency of Colombian winger Luis Díaz, and the French star who both creates and scores. Together, the trio has produced 58 goals – more than 56% of the team’s total.

On Matchday 29 of the Bundesliga season, Bayern traveled to St. Pauli. Kompany rotated his lineup with the second leg of the Champions League quarterfinals in mind. Bayern needed two goals to break the record. It scored five. Díaz came on in the 58th minute and nearly found the net, just as he did at the Bernabéu.

Luis Díaz, the scorer of one of the goals of the season

Bayern’s official website highlighted Díaz’s contribution as part of the club’s scoring record. The German side recalled his stunning goal against Union Berlin, which was voted Bayern’s best goal of 2025.

Díaz is Bayern’s second-leading scorer in the Bundesliga with 15 goals. He has also added 14 assists. Overall, he has made 41 appearances, with 23 goals and 18 assists. It has been a prolific season that places him among the very best.

Bayern has been one of the best teams in Europe this season. It will dream of taking another step in the Champions League at home next Wednesday. The club is also on the verge of winning the Bundesliga title and remains in the fight for the German Cup.
