It’s shaping up to be an incredibly busy summer for the Mexican national team. Diego Cocca’s team have qualified for the Concacaf Nations League Finals, in which they will face the USMNT in the semi-finals at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on 15 June. The winner of the tie will meet either Panama or Canada in the final at the same venue three days later. The Gold Cup then kicks off on 24 June, with Mexico starting their campaign against Honduras in Houston the following day. El Tri will also take on Haiti and Qatar in the group stage.

Late on Wednesday, Cocca revealed a list of 33 players who had been called upon to take part in the two tournaments, as well as warm-up games against Guatemala (Mazatlán, 7 June) and Cameroon (San Diego, 10 June). There had been some suggestion that the roster could feature some surprise names, which cannot really be said to be the case.

Although one Víctor Guzmán, of Rayados, is in, his Chivas namesake is not. The midfielder and club teammate Jesús Orozco had been tipped for places on the roster after fine performances throughout the Clausura 2023 but haven’t made the cut.

How many Liga MX players feature?

In total, 23 of the 33 players ply their trade in Liga MX, five of whom featured in Sunday’s final between Guadalajara and Tigres. América are the most represented club with four players, ahead of Monterrey, Chivas, Pachuca and Santos Laguna, who have three. Two players from Tigres, Cruz Azul and Dutch side Ajax also make the roster.
