What is the flag next to the scoreboard of El Clásico, Barcelona vs Real Madrid?
The normal scoreboard was given a facelift for the weekend of El Clásico.
Checking the time during a game is something we do out of anxiety, information, and outright fear. As the clock ticks on, the game unfolds, and us football fans can easily spend more of our weekend afternoon wishing it away than making it feel any longer than it already does.
Have a look at the clock today during El Clásico and you’ll notice that it’s almost the same as always, but not quite. The blue flag covered with a circle of yellow stars stands out at the top corner as a guest for the elite sporting action.
Under the slogan ‘40 years celebrating Europe Day together’, a number of sporting institutions have come together to recognise Spain’s entry into the European Union, with the logo of the EU flag the main visual representation.
You may have seen it prior to today, May 10, which is actually the final day of the initiative, which began on the 4th. But of course, you were too busy quoting Star Wars.
Why are Real Madrid and Barcelona captains wearing an EU armband?
As well as the scoreboard, both captains of the Clásico teams will be wearing armbands in the colours of the flag of the EU, as are all other teams in LaLiga and LaLiga 2.
