Hollywood pair Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have recently propelled Wrexham to a new level of fame after purchasing the club in November of 2020. Wrexham take on Sheffield United in the FA Cup
On February 7th, at 2.45 p.m. ET, Sheffield United will host Reynolds’ and McElhenney’s team at Bramall Lane in the FA Cup fourth round replay. The winner will make it to the 5th round which will be played in March.
Both teams come into the game in fine form, as Sheffield United are second in the Championship, 10 points ahead of 3rd place. They are one of the favourites to be promoted to the Premier League this season under boss Paul Heckingbottom.
As for Wrexham, they too sit second in the league, just 3 points off the top. A win against Sheffield United would no doubt give them a huge boost for the rest of the season.
How much did Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney pay to buy Wrexham?
Multiple reports all indicate that the price the duo paid for the right to own Wrexham was around £2 million ($2.5 million). Ever since then, the club has had major work both on and off the pitch. The squad was overhauled and last season they reached the playoffs in the league; off the pitch they now function like a truly professional outfit, making use of a physiotherapy team, and a big-money sponsor with social media brand, TikTok.
