The US Open Cup final is over, and Inter Miami lost out to Houston Dynamo in the battle for the trophy. It was an intriguing match with plenty to keep an eye on with the biggest question ahead of kick-off being if Messi would start or even play at all. As it turned out he didn’t feature, and Houston went on to win 2-1.

The winner was decided at DRV PNK Stadium and the prize of lifting the trophy was only one part of the glory. So what about the other victories that come with winning the match? The prize money is an often overlooked part of winning in sport, as it’s something we don’t see like the big, shiny trophy and medal presentation, but it is certainly there, with the winner receiving funds that can go a long way. Let’s see how much the winners - and losers - made following the final.

How much prize money do the US Open Cup winners receive?

As winner of the US Open Cup, Houston received, as well as the right to dance and party all night long, a whopping $300,000 in prize money. They will also have their name marked on the Dewar Challenge Trophy, a huge honour in American soccer. As well as this, the winners also secured a spot in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup, but since Inter Miami already have a place thanks to their Leagues Cup win earlier in the year, that was automatically always going to the Dynamo for reaching the final.

Runners-up Inter Miami got a total of $100,000, with the team that advances the farthest from each lower division receiving $25,000 in prize money.
