Barcelona’s financial troubles have been well-documented in recent years, as have their attempts to make money in an effort to solve them. One strategy they have employed is to arrange friendly matches when there are gaps in the official fixture calendar, which they will take to the extreme when they face Club América in Dallas just before Christmas, a game that has now been confirmed.

Barcelona vs América one day after Barcelona vs Almería

La Blaugrana will take on Las Águilas at the Cotton Bowl on Thursday 21 December (kick-off at 9:00 p.m. ET), just one day after they are scheduled to play their last LaLiga match of the 2023 against Almería at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys in Montjuïc.

While clubs would generally never consider playing matches on back-to-back days, let alone with a transatlantic flight in between them, there is one reason Barça are prepared to make an exception. Or should we say five million of them? According to Catalan sports newspaper Mundo Deportivo, La Blaugrana stand to make €5 million ($5.45 million) from their short trip to the United States.

Barça hoping to sign Vitor Roque as Lewandowski alternative

Every little helps Barcelona at the moment, especially as they are hoping to make enough room on their wage bill to take Brazilian youngster Vitor Roque to the club in January, rather than wait until next summer. Veteran Robert Lewandowski is the only out-and-out striker on the first-team roster at present, a situation Barça would like to address.

The LaLiga game with Almería is set for 7:00 p.m. local time (1:00 p.m. ET), with Barcelona expected to fly out to Texas almost immediately afterwards. The Catalans have already played in Dallas in 2023, defeating Real Madrid 3-0 at AT&T Stadium as part of their pre-season tour of the US.
