How will Dani Alves’ sexual assault case affect his contract at Pumas?

Dani Alves was arrested in Barcelona on Friday accused of groping a woman at one of the city’s nightclubs. He is under contract at UNAM until June.

The University Club will proceed to sanction Dani Alves in accordance with the provisions of his contract after his arrest in Barcelona for sexual assault.

After the arrest and subsequent confinement of Dani Alves in a Barcelona prison without the right to bail, due to accusations against him of sexual assault, UNAM will proceed to review the contract it maintains with the Brazilian player and decide whether to definitively separate him from the institution. Alves, who joined Pumas from Barcelona last summer, is under contract until June 2023, so has little over five months left.

UNAM released the following statement regarding their position on Alves.

In accordance with the information relating to the player Dani Alves, regarding the legal situation which he is in, Club Universidad Nacional will execute any appropriate action or sanctions, as established in the terms of the labor contract signed by the player, as well as the conditions of the Internal Work Regulations (ILRs). In due course, the club will announce its decision concerning this case”.

At the moment, Pumas have not confirmed whether it will terminate Alves’ contract, which will expire in June, although everything seems to be heading in that direction. The full-back has not played a single minute of the Clausura 2023 due to a family commitments and, now, due to the judicial process opened against him in Spain.
