Inter Miami linked with a move for Sergio Ramos

The Spanish centre-back had been linked with a return to Sevilla in LaLiga, but now his future looks likely to be in MLS.

The signing of Lionel Messi was only the first step in the restructuring that Jorge Mas and David Beckham have begun at Inter Miami. Shortly after the signing of the Argentine star was announced, the club announced Sergio Busquets will be accompanying him on the pitch, but things don’t look finished in the Miami offices, with more incomings expected.

After confirming Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino as their new coach, Miami now want to strengthen the defence with Jordi Alba from FC Barcelona and Real Madrid’s historic captain, Sergio Ramos, who are in negotiations with the MLS franchise.

Ramos will take a wage cut if he ends up in MLS

According to ‘Sport’, Ramos did not manage to reach a renewal agreement with PSG and this has lead him to make the decision to go to MLS, to the same club as Messi, with whom he shared a dressing room over the last seasons.

Despite the big money move being on the cards, Ramos would have to sacrifice part of his salary to reach MLS, as it is impossible for him to sign as a designated player with ‘Tata’ Martino, especially given the arrivals of Messi and Busquets.

Who would be Inter Miami’s designated players?

Inter Miami’s designated players would be Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Josef Martínez. This would make it difficult for other big names to come to the Florida team; neither Alba nor Ramos could have a salary that exceeds $2 million per year. While their current/past contracts with their respective teams are not public knowledge, it is assumed that they were earning much more than the figure allowed by MLS rules.

In addition, Miami would have to place Gregore and Rodolfo Pizarro on the transfer market, as until now they are the members of the squad currently considered as designated players; what is certain is that the team is going to undergo some heavy changes this summer to how things currently stand at a squad level.
