Is Weston McKennie playing for Juventus in the Champions League against PSV Eindhoven?

The USMNT midfielder was absent for the September internationals and has made just one substitute appearance in Serie A so far this season.

Juventus begin their Champions League campaign today against PSV Eindhoven, returning to European soccer’s elite club competition after missing out in 2023/24.

The Old Lady, as they are known, are Italy’s most successful team and are looking to create a new era of dominance under head coach Thiago Motta. Juventus are currently sitting fourth in Serie A after picking up two wins and two draws from their first four fixtures of the new season.

But despite the promising start there have been few opportunities for USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie. The 26-year-old has been restricted to just one substitute appearance in those four four league fixtures. However, McKennie has been named in the Juventus team to face PSV.

When will Sergiño Dest return from injury?

On the other side, there’s one USMNT regular who will certainly not be making an appearance. Sergiño Dest completed a permanent move to PSV over the summer after impressing while on loan from Barcelona in 2023/24.

Dest had made the right-back position his own last season but suffered a serous anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in April 2024 which ended his season.

Placing their faith in the 23-year-old, PSV opted to sign him on a permanent basis regardless of the injury. However he has not yet made his return to team practice and he may not be back in contention until early 2025. When his injury was made public, he was given a rehabilitation timeline of around eight-nine months, a major blow for the defender.
