Italy internationals being investigated for alleged illegal betting
FIGC has confirmed that the pair will not feature in Italy’s upcoming games and are set to return to their clubs.
Italy international players Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Zaniolo are being investigated for illegal betting. Sky Italia report that police are looking into the case involving the Italian pair, who are both playing in the Premier League, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa respectively.
No international games for pair
The two names were reportedly released by photographic agent Fabrizio Corona. They have left the Azzurri training camp in Coverciano after the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office opened proceedings against both of them for the same offence.
FIGC has confirmed that the pair will not feature in Italy’s upcoming games and are set to return to their clubs. If found guilty, they could face bans from soccer and pay fines of $26,300 or more.
Fagioli involved
Corona made statements to the Turin police officers on behalf of the Piedmont prosecutor’s office and had mentioned the names of the two players on his social media accounts as part of the illegal betting case, which has also involved Juventus player Nicolo Fagioli.
