Javier Hernández makes bold Chivas pledge ahead of Apertura 2025

Veteran striker ‘Chicharito’ has issued a fierce rallying cry after Guadalajara’s hugely disappointing Clausura 2025 campaign.

Update:

While compatriots Monterrey and Pachuca are gearing up to take part in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, Chivas have no choice but to stew over a bitterly disappointing Clausura 2025. Veteran striker Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández is already viewing the Apertura 2025, which starts in July, as an opportunity right a number of wrongs.

Guadalajara could only finish ninth in the Apertura 2024 before losing in the very first play-in game. However, they fared even worse in the most recent tournament, missing out on the postseason altogether after coming 11th in the league phase.

‘Chicharito’ has high hopes for Apertura 2025

Despite their recent struggles, Hernández has set his ambitions high for the upcoming Apertura 2025, when ex-Barcelona and Argentina defender Gabriel Milito will be in charge of the team for the first time.

“What we want most is to win, to feel that energy again,” explains Chicharito to Chivas TV. “Those matchdays where the goal isn’t just to show up, but to go out and dominate. Winning has to be the baseline. We’re aiming to win as many games as possible and reach the top.”

The 37-year-old also made a powerful pledge to fans who have been hugely critical of the club’s performances in recent times.

Chivas “ready to sweat blood”

“Winning comes with a lot of responsibility - it takes hard work, learning, sacrifice. And I can tell you this: we’re ready to sweat blood if that’s what it takes to pay back the faith this club and its fans have placed in us.”

For Hernández, though, representing Chivas is more than just putting in a shift. The striker has been around the club long enough to know supporters expect to be entertained while watching their team win.

“Attacking, exciting soccer”

“At Chivas, giving it your all and demanding excellence isn’t the whole formula - we also have to play real soccer. So we’re going to push ourselves, give everything we have, and raise our game technically. We want fans to see a team they can identify with - one that plays attacking, exciting, forward-thinking soccer.”

‘Chicharito’ certainly talks a good game, but can Guadalajara match it once the on-field Liga MX action gets underway?
