João Félix to Atlético Madrid: contract details and his record at Chelsea
The Portuguese striker will travel to London on Tuesday to complete medical tests ahead of his move back to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea keeps shaking up the summer transfer market, and 11 days before it closes, the Premier League club are reinforcing their attack with a familiar face: the Portuguese attacker João Félix.
Despite being included in Atletico Madrid’s list to face Villarreal tonight, the 24-year-old player will now be on his way to London to complete medical tests within the next 24 to 48 hours. Chelsea and Atlético Madrid agreed on a $55 million (€50 million) transfer fee plus $11 million (€10 million) in add-ons. What’s more, Félix agreed personal terms with the English club on a six-year contract with an option to extend it for one more season.
The Portuguese become Chelsea’s ninth signing in this summer transfer window, following the additions of Omari Kellyman, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Guiu, Caleb Wiley, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Aaron Anselmino, and Pedro Neto. Everything indicated that Samu Omorodión, Atletico Madrid’s forward who had already traveled to London to undergo a medical test, was set to become Chelsea’s new player. However, the English club changed its mind and opted for the Portuguese striker as the top option.
João Felix’s stats at Chelsea.
João Félix will not be a newcomer to the Premier League, given that he joined the Blues on loan during the second half of the 2022/23 season.
His debut in the Premier League ended with a bittersweet taste; he came on the pitch as a substitute in the second half but received a straight red card after a nasty tackle on Tete. He played 16 league games for Chelsea and scored four goals.
With Atlético Madrid, João Félix played 131 matches, scored 34 goals, and assisted 18. Still, the Portuguese never showed his full potential, and his career with the Spanish club has been marked by constant ups and downs, which has caused his relationship with the club to deteriorate over the years.
