He never really goes away. Jose Mourinho is reportedly on his way back to Europe’s elite level with a move to PSG seemingly closer than ever, according to reports in France. The 60-year-old is currently at AS Roma in Italy however, after winning the Conference League last season and putting the side in the race for the Champions League spots this year, it seems that there is still credit in the bank to be used.

Foot Mercato are reporting that talks have taken place between Mourinho and the French team with a view to the Portuguese taking over the club for the 23/24 season. Galtier has been under fire at PSG after his positive start ended rapidly: defeats to Bayern in the Champions League round of 16 and a cup exit at the hands of rivals Marseille left the squad uncertain about his prospects as continuing as coach, and as such the manager is in a more than precarious position.

No contact as of yet between PSG and Roma

The report says that while there has been no contact between the two clubs, negotiations between the French side and the manager have happened. PSG approve of his authoritarian approach, something they perhaps see as necessary given the meltdown this season.

After suffering a two-week unpaid suspension for travelling to Saudi Arabia in an unauthorised trip, Lionel Messi has also reportedly been confirmed to be leaving the club that looks to be preparing for major changes in the off-season period, with the executives in Qatar preferring to centre their focus around Kylian Mbappé. The Argentinian has constantly been linked with a return to Barcelona and even MLS and his future away from PSG seems all the more likely after the most recent breakdown in relationships between player and team.
