Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City’s creative fulcrum, went down injured in the first half an hour of the Champions League final against Inter. The English team set out for their first European Cup in their history; with Haaland up front, things had never looked easier. But De Bruyne’s injury before 30 minutes caused an already nervous Pep Guardiola to sweat bullets on the touchline and order Phil Foden to warm up.

Inter had started brightly and threatened Manchester City’s goal as the English team’s nerves were visible and they caused themselves plenty of early problems in the game. Seeing De Bruyne on the floor only aided in accelerating the heartbeats of those in light blue shirts throughout the ground. Curiously, the same thing happened to the player in the 2021 Champions League final against Chelsea.

What injury did De Bruyne suffer?

While official confirmation has not been given on the Belgian’s physical issue, Kevin De Bruyne waved for the change just minutes later after the restart with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in his right leg, and was replaced by Phil Foden on the 35th minute.

De Bruyne scored 2 goals and has 5 assists in the 22/23 season of the Champions League and was a huge part of Erling Haaland’s success over the season. In the Premier League he scored 7 goals and got a league-high 16 assists.
