LA Galaxy captain Chicharito in form going into play-offs

The Mexican international finished the regular season with 18 goals and three assists in 31 appearances.

The Los Angeles Galaxy defeated the Houston Dynamo 3-1 to secure fourth place in the Western Conference with a record of 14 wins, eight draws and 12 defeats. The most decorated team in the league will host Nashville SC at Dignity Health Sports Park on 15 October in the first round of the 2022 MLS Cup playoffs.

The Galaxy has played twice against Nashville SC and they hold an unbeaten record of one win and one draw. In their first ever meeting, they walked away with the three points on 23 April with a 1-0 win thanks to a late goal from Dejan Joveljic. The second time they met was on 10 September and Riqui Puig scored his first MLS goal in the 90th minute to make it 1-1.

Chicharito in peak form

Javier Hernández scored in the last game of the regular season and he arrives to the play-offs in peak form for the first time since joining the Galaxy in 2020. The Mexico international finished the campaign with 18 goals and three assists in 31 appearances. Chicharito has become one of the most lethal strikers in the league, scoring 11 goals in the last 12 games.

Javi [Javier Hernández] benefits from us when we can play with speed, and we can play with tempo. And we can get behind the back line and create some space for his movements. And, obviously, when you get a striker who is in form, that’s a wonderful thing,” said LA Galaxy head coach Greg Vanney on Chichartio’s performances this season.
