The USMNT signed off 2023 by securing a direct ticket to the Copa América to be played next summer in North America; winning the tournament on home soil is the main objective for the US Soccer directors and the coaching staff led by Gregg Berhalter and now they are one of the CONCACAF teams who have made the cut.

On the final day of the month of November, the FIFA rankings were released, in which the United States fell one position and were overtaken by Uruguay, a team that took eleventh position in the table decided by football’s governing body.

As a result, the team led by Gregg Berhalter now occupy 12th place in the rankings, the position in which they will close out the year and which will be key for the upcoming Copa América draw set to be held in Miami on December 7.

USMNT benefits with Copa América seeding

By virtue of being ranked 12th in the world by FIFA, the United States will secure a seeded spot in the Copa América draw, as they are the fourth-highest ranked team both on the continent and out of the 14 teams that so far already have a spot in the competition.

The USMNT are ranked only below Argentina, who lead the rest of the world in the list, Brazil and then Uruguay, a team that have skyrocketed under Marcelo Bielsa during the latest FIFA break. A late surprise from CONMEBOL announced, however, that it would be in fact Gold Cup winners Mexico, and not Bielsa’s side, who will take top spot in Group B.
