Linda Caicedo keeps her cool despite early Colombia World Cup success
The Real Madrid winger is keeping a cool head after Colombia’s excellent first round performances in the World Cup.
Linda Caicedo had already made her name in women’s football when she signed for Real Madrid from Deportivo Cali in January 2023, but the World Cup is a completely different level of exposure. At just 18-years-old, she has taken on the hopes of a nation and performed incredibly, scoring a wonderful goal in her side’s stunning victory over Germany which allowed them to put one foot in the next round.
After the victory, Linda was present at the ‘Footsteps of Passion’ event, set up in Sydney by CONMEBOL, where various teams are represented with artworks that adorn the walls: and now Linda, thanks to her talent and performances, is the face of Colombia in the exhibition.
Colombia on the verge of winning the group
Colombia have now got 6 points from 6, after having won against South Korea in the first game - with a first-half goal from Caicedo - and Germany, in what is one of the shock results of the tournament so far. A point against Morocco in the final game would see the South American side top the group and progress to the next round.
“I’m very happy to find this present in a special moment for myself, yesterday was sensational for me, the team is calm but we’re thinking about Morocco [their rivals in the final group game]. We haven’t won anything and the World Cup is still alive”, said the player.

For Real Madrid, Colombia’s Caicedo has featured heavily for Alberto Toril’s side and helped them to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the 23/24 season, as well as finish in second place in a league dominated by FC Barcelona.
“I feel that it’s the day-to-day work that prepares me for this, filling myself up with experiences of tournaments like these, with such great players and the idea is to continue as a professional and a footballer. I want to thank all the Colombians for the support yesterday, I feel that the people in the stadium were fundamental and the people who were so connected with Colombia since the first moment.”
