Lionel Messi’s father provides update on son’s Saudi Arabia deal

The future of Lionel Messi beyond 30 June is currently unclear. There are multiple and growing rumours about what is expected of the Argentine when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ends. To this day, no option has yet been ruled out and journalists around the globe are keen to reveal the scoop when a decision is made, some pushing stories that it already has been.

When will Messi make his decison?

But the player’s father Jorge Messi has issued a statement in an attempt to end any speculation and clarify timescales on Messi’s situation. He also had a real go at some media outlets for pushing their ‘news’ without any justification.

“There’s absolutely nothing with any club for next season,” begins the statement. “The decision will not be taken before Lionel finishes the league with PSG.

“Once the season ends it will be the time to analyse and see what there is, and then take a decision.

“There are always rumours and lots of people use Lionel’s name to gain notoriety but the only truth is that we can confirm that there is nothing with anybody. Not verbal, nor signed, nor agreed, and there won’t be until the season finishes.

“It feels to me like a lack of respect towards the other media, that there are those who consciously and deliberately deceive, without providing any proof of their claims, and who want to create news from any badly-intended rumour or something guided by someone in favour of their interests.

“They should explain why they don’t check their sources… They wouldn’t want the truth to ruin their ‘news’.”

So that’s that then, right? Don’t expect to hear any more rumours until the season is over...
