Giorgi Mamardashvili’s future is close to being confirmed; it’s a matter of time before the player is announced as Liverpool’s new signing. However, the Reds plan to keep him out on loan this season.

The deal between Liverpool and Valencia is reaching its final stages after clubs agreed on a transfer fee of $33 million (€30 million). Initially, the English club wanted the keeper to stay on loan at Premier League team Bournemouth but the player is pushing to stay in Valencia, the club where he unleashed his potential.

It is no secret that Mamardashvili was on the top team’s radar after his outstanding performance with Georgia during the 2024 Euros. The goalkeeper made 29 saves throughout the tournament, more than any other keeper in the competition. What’s more, he led Georgia to reach the knockout stages for the first time, being knocked out by Spain in the round of 16.

Last season, he played 37 games with Valencia, missed only one league game, and kept 13 clean sheets. Since arriving at the Spanish club in 2021, Mamardashvili has played 101 total games, kept 31 clean sheets, and received 114 goals. Given the excitement caused by this new Liverpool reinforcement, a question arises: What will become of Alisson’s future then?

What will happen with Alisson Becker?

The 31-year-old goalkeeper arrived in Liverpool in 2018 after the Reds paid Roma a $69,4 million (€62.5 million) fee. This was the second most expensive goalkeeper transfer ever, only behind Kepa’s transfer to Chelsea in 2018 for $88 million.

Alisson’s numbers with Liverpool in these six years with the club have been outstanding: 264 matches, 236 goals received, and 113 clean sheets. The Brazilian can also boast about having a fantastic trophy record with the Reds, having won the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and FA Cup titles, among others.

For now, Alisson’s place is as good as guaranteed should the Mamardashvili deal be completed as planned with the Georgian staying with Valencia on loan, and the Brazilian will be able to finish this season with the Reds as the starting goalkeeper. Despite Saudí Arabia’s interest in signing Alisson, the club is not open to letting the keeper leave this season.
