Liverpool vs Real Madrid preview

Liverpool

The Reds will be looking for revenge when they play their most important match to date against Real Madrid at Anfield.

The hosts, who were defeated in the 2018 and 2022 Champions League finals by Los Blancos, qualified for the knockout round after finishing second in Group A behind Napoli.

An excellent Thibault Courtois was key for Real Madrid last May, as the outcome could have been very different if it wasn’t because of his outstanding performance.

Mohamed Salah will certainly be very motivated to defeat the Spanish giants and he will become the top African scorer in UCL history if he manages to find the back of the net.

Liverpool go into the match after back-to-back wins in the Premier League against Everton and Newcastle, but Jurgen Klopp’s men need to keep their consistency if they want to reach the Champions League spots.

The Reds are sitting eighth with 35 points, seven points away from fourth-placed Tottenham, although Liverpool have two games in hand.

Real Madrid

Meanwhile, Los Blancos go into the game against Liverpool after a hard-fought victory over Osasuna, which keeps them in the battle for the LaLiga title.

However, Real are still far away from league leaders Barcelona, as they are eight points behind them and they still have to play against the Catalan giants at Camp Nou.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men, who recently won the FIFA Club World Cup, haven’t had the best run of form away in England in the UCL in recent times, winning just one of their last seven away matches against English opposition.

Los Merengues, led by a very inspired Vinicius Jr., will be traveling for the fourth time to Anfield to face Liverpool in the Champions League. They were thrashed in their first game in 2009 (4-0), but haven’t conceded in their last two visits, winning 3-0 in 2014 and drawing 0-0 in 2021.
