Los Angeles Galaxy identify Liga MX striker as possible Chicharito replacement

The Major League Soccer team are considering Nicolás López from Tigres UANL as a potential replacement for the Mexican who is set to be absent long term.

An ACL knee injury will deprive Los Angeles Galaxy of Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernández’s services for the rest of the season and the club are now looking for a summer window replacement. The Major League Soccer side need to find a new striker, but options are limited due to the sanction incurred for the 2019 signing of Cristian Pavón.

The Los Angeles Galaxy cannot sign players not born in the United States or Canada this summer and can only sign a player of another nationality or from another league if he is a free agent.

Nicolás López in line?

According to various reports, the highly decorated MLS side are interested in signing Nicolás López from Tigres UANL. The Uruguayan striker has six months left on his contract with the team that won the Liga MX Clausura 2023 and apparently does not fit with the team’s plans for the next tournament.

López has struggled with the side from Nuevo Leon managing just one goal in 11 games last season, with only two starts and nine substitute appearances in the famous yellow shirt. The Galaxy could sign the striker only if Tigres terminates the Uruguayan player’s contract and he becomes a free agent during the next transfer window.
