Luciano Acosta never tires of breaking records and ensuring that his name is engraved in MLS history thanks to the skill he regularly shows on the pitch. The midfielder is going through his second spell in US soccer and is putting in performances that have everyone applauding.

‘Lucho’ played in Major League Soccer a few years ago with DC United and after his time in Liga MX he returned to the States with Cincinnati, where he has been on a mission to show us all what he can do: and he’s been breaking plenty of records along the way...

What is Luciano Acosta’s record with FC Cincinnati?

Just a few months ago he became the fourth player ever to reach 60 goals and 80 assists in the regular season, needing just 224 games to do so. Acosta also holds the MLS MVP award for 2023 after leading FC Cincinnati to the Supporters’ Shield. In that campaign, the Argentine contributed to a total of 31 goals: 17 goals and 14 assists.

After the conclusion of Match day 16 in the 2024 season, Lucho became the first player in club history to score at least one goal in nine straight regular-season matches. He also became the eighth player in MLS history to get at least 10 assists in four consecutive seasons.

So far, Acosta has played 128 games for Cincinnati, scoring 47 goals and threading 44 assists in all competitions. The player has the personal challenge of surpassing his mark from the previous year, which so far is the most goals he has ever scored in a single season.

Of FC Cincinnati’s 16 games played this season, they have won 13, drawn 3 and lost two. With 14 goals conceded in those games, they have the second best defence in the East, with just Columbus Crew and Charlotte FC ahead with 13. They have scored 23 goals, which puts them in the top 5, but Inter Miami’s star-studded squad is running away with that award, having netted 38 times already.

Lucho Acosta and Cincinnati have a big challenge with Inter Miami leading the Eastern Conference, ‘The Orange & Blue’ sit just one point behind Messi’s team with a game in hand. The battle for the top of the table will be a fascinating one for the remainder of the season with the midfielder set to, as always, play a pivotal role in his team’s chances of success.
