Inter Miami’s season has officially come to an end and the departure of Josef Martínez opens the door for legendary striker Luis Suárez to join the ever-evolving club. Although the move is looking increasingly likely, the Uruguayan marksman - currently playing with Gremio in Brazil - will have to wait a while longer.

The Messi effect

In just three months since the resurgence of Inter Miami thanks to the effect of star player Leo Messi, they have already managed to win a trophy, and 2024 now looks set to be a key year, both for the club from Florida and for MLS. With five months to go before the start of the new season, Miami are preparing to sign in the next transfer window.

With 10 games left to play and 30 points at stake, Gremio are playing to qualify for the next edition of the Copa Libertadores. However, results have not gone their way, although Suárez has been involved in five goals in the last six games.

Lucho has always been a winner. In the summer, the Uruguayan reached an agreement with Gremio to be able to terminate his contract a year early (from ending in 2024 it now expires on 31 December 2023) and the former Barcelona striker wants to end the season in Brazil on a positive note.

Heavyweights open the door for Suárez

Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets and Messi’s rapport with Suárez is no secret. They won everything together at FC Barcelona and could be set to soon reunite in Miami.

Alba hoping for Suárez move

When asked about Suárez joining the club owned by David Beckham, Alba said: “I hope he comes. I’ve always said that I want to play with the best and for me, Luis is a great player. I’ve been lucky to share many moments with him both on and off the pitch. He’s a great friend of mine and I’d love him to come, but it’s not a decision I can make. I’m sure he would help us a lot.”
