Madrid giants reap the rewards from Liga MX star’s Messi linkup
Germán Berterame’s move from Monterrey to Inter Miami is set to bring funds into the coffers of Spanish club Atlético Madrid.

Germán Berterame will not continue with Monterrey and is set to become a new Inter Miami player, where he’ll share a locker room with Argentine superstar Lionel Messi.
Spaniards set to take Berterame cut
Although the move has yet to be officially announced, the naturalized Mexican forward and the Monterrey front office have reached an agreement with Miami to finalize the transfer, which is expected to be worth around $15 million.
However, it’s worth noting that Monterrey will not receive the full amount. LaLiga giants Atlético Madrid retained a percentage of Berterame’s future sell‑on value when they sold the 27-year-old to Rayados in 2022.
With this signing, Miami adds another attacking option - one who is currently competing for a spot on the Mexican national team ahead of the World Cup and is even in camp preparing for the upcoming friendlies against Panama and Bolivia.

Rayados, meanwhile, are left racing against the clock to secure a replacement up front. Berterame had been the team’s starting striker, and the transfer window closes on February 9. For now, Monterrey will rely on Anthony Martial, Roberto de la Rosa, and Joaquín Moxica to lead the line.
An official announcement from both clubs is expected in the coming days, after which Berterame will travel to the U.S. to complete the move - bringing to an end roughly six and a half years of playing in Mexico.
