Manchester City responds over contact with Real Madrid over Rodri

The pressure from fans and pundits for Real Madrid to sign Rodri continues to build around José Mourinho’s squad. It is not the first time a player has been linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, but this time the calls are louder – and, perhaps, backed by stronger arguments.

AS has contacted Manchester City directly to ask about the growing speculation in Spain surrounding the future of the standout player from the recent World Cup. The response from the Premier League club is one of complete calm.

City insist the situation is under control, pointing to the fact that Rodri still has one year remaining on his contract.

The club also denies receiving any offer from Real Madrid and says the rumors are simply a consequence of Rodri’s outstanding World Cup performances, which they believe have fully vindicated the careful rehabilitation process he underwent last season.

The Spain international put his campaign on hold midway through last season to focus on making a complete recovery from a knee injury. His displays throughout the tournament in North America have shown that recovery was a success.

Rodri is now expected to undergo a minor surgical procedure on his back to address a lingering issue. However, the expectation is that he will be ready for the start of the new season at the end of August, regardless of whether he remains at Manchester City or eventually moves elsewhere – although City’s hierarchy would prefer him to stay.

The transfer window is still open

There is still more than a month left in the summer transfer window, leaving plenty of time for unexpected developments.

Rodri’s preference appears clear: he would like a new challenge and the opportunity to showcase his talent every week in LaLiga, with playing at the Bernabéu viewed as the ultimate goal.

For now, however, both Real Madrid and Manchester City agree on one point: there have been no concrete moves.

With around 40 days remaining in the transfer window, no meetings have taken place and no agreement has been reached.

As is also the case with Bayern Munich, relations between Real Madrid and Manchester City remain excellent, with direct communication between the clubs. But if Madrid decide to pursue Rodri, their first call would be to the Etihad Stadium – and, according to those involved, that call has not yet happened.
