Marco Asensio close to leaving Real Madrid
Asensio doesn’t feel like an important part of Ancelotti’s squad and there is interest from the Premier League.
Seven years and three Champions League titles later, Marco Asensio could have 35 days left as a Real Madrid player. AS understands his meetings with José Ángel Sánchez (Real Madrid’s general manager) are frequent and in today’s meeting, he confessed a personal dissatisfaction with his situation. He doesn’t feel like an important part of the squad. This newspaper can also confirm that the player has a proposal from the Premier League with a salary increase and Madrid will not offer the same. At the moment the final decision has not been taken, far from it, but it appears that he is now closer to leaving. Asensio will decide in a week and in the event of leaving, he would want to say goodbye to the Bernabéu on the last game of the season against Athletic Club.
There are only a few days left to find out the outcome of a story that began a year ago. In April 2022, Asensio left his long-time agent - Horacio Gaggioli - and put himself in the hands of Jorge Mendes. The player was heading into the penultimate year of his contract and football has a simple translation: sign a new deal or be sold. The alternative was to stay and leave on a free transfer, but the club wanted to avoid at all costs.
Behind Rodrygo and Valverde
Last season he weighed up offers but nothing seemed more attractive than staying at Real Madrid. This season he has competed with Fede Valverde and Rodrygo on the right flank and has played 1,964 minutes compared to 4,348′ for Valverde and 3,680′ for Rodrygo. He has only started 18 of the 59 matches.
Final goodbye against Athletic?
The final decision has not yet been taken. The player will decide in the next few days, giving himself a maximum period of one week. If he leaves, he will want to say goodbye to the Bernabéu. And that would be next weekend against Athletic. At the moment he is injured, which has prevented him from travelling to Sevilla, but he does feel in a position to play in that last game, especially in the event that events are moving in the direction of a farewell.
