Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment as Chelsea manager is edging closer and the Argentinian could be appointed in the coming days, according to Sky Sports.

Club legend Frank Lampard continues to take charge on an interim basis and will do so until the end of the current season.

Talks between Chelsea and Pochettino have advanced in the last few days with recruitment plans also being discussed.

Since the departure of former head coach Graham Potter, Chelsea have held talks with both Luis Enrique and Julian Nagelsmann but have since turned their attention to Pochettino.

Their search for a new manager had been reduced to three names, with Pochettino joined on the shortlist by Burnley head coach Vincent Kompany and an unnamed third coach.

Chelsea struggling in Premier League

Chelsea take on Brentford at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday before taking on league leaders Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

The Blues have hugely underperformed this season and sit in 11th place in the Premier League standings.

Pochettino approached by Real Madrid

Pochettino left PSG in July 2022 after an 18-month stint in Paris.

The former Tottenham boss has been approached by Real Madrid twice before and has also turned down several offers in recent months from several European clubs.

He has also been linked with a return to managerless Spurs but it now appears that he could be heading to their London rivals.
