Kylian Mbappé stitched up and misses Real Madrid training as Bayern clash edges closer
The forward suffered a gashed eyebrow which required three stitches. He didn’t train on Sunday as thoughts focus on the Allianz Arena for Wednesday night.
Kylian Mbappé needed three stitches to close a gash above his right eyebrow — the result of the elbow he took from Vitor Reis in Friday’s league game against Girona.
The blow caused heavy bleeding and required medical treatment later on. The procedure went smoothly, but Mbappé was unable to take part in Sunday’s training session.
There’s no panic inside Real Madrid — the decision to keep him off the field was a mix of discomfort in the area and simple precaution to avoid any further impact. He didn’t step onto the Valdebebas pitch, but his availability for Wednesday at the Allianz Arena is not in doubt.
The club has ruled out using a protective mask, though they are working on a lighter form of protection for the area. One way or another, he’s expected to play.

What happened?
The elbow came in the 89th minute against Girona. Mbappé cut inside from the right, stepped into the box… and was struck by Vitor Reis. Referee Alberola Rojas didn’t consider it enough for a foul, but the impact left a deep gash above Mbappé’s right eyebrow and immediate, heavy bleeding. He finished the match and walked off normally, but once inside the locker room, the size of the wound became clear.
Out of training
Hours later, doctors closed the cut with three stitches. Since then, Mbappé has been resting and working indoors at the gym, but he hasn’t returned to the field. Real Madrid had a rest day yesterday, and today’s session went ahead without him.
Inside Valdebebas, the message is calm: Mbappé will start in Munich. The next step is deciding what kind of protection he’ll wear over the stitches. It won’t be a mask — that option is off the table internally — but some form of shielding is expected.

No other surprises
Training brought no additional setbacks. Courtois and Rodrygo remain out for Munich, and Tchouaméni will miss the match due to suspension. Mendy trained normally and is on track to start. Arbeloa still has two decisions to make: Militão or Huijsen alongside Rüdiger, and who fills the fourth midfield spot alongside Valverde, Bellingham, and Thiago.
Mbappé will be in the starting lineup — in a game which Madrid need to win to keep their Champions League ambitions alive.
