Last week, PSG launched their season ticket campaign for next season and it featured Kylian Mbappé and other promising young PSG players. Minutes later, the France international posted a statement on social media expressing his dissatisfaction with the video after he had not been consulted, adding that PSG was not “Kylian Saint-Germain”.

Mbappé's words generated uproar in Paris. In a decisive year for PSG, especially because of his possible contract renewal, any act, gesture, or activity by the club regarding its star player is scrutinised from all angles. A little less than a year ago, PSG announced Mbappé's renewal until 2025, although it was actually a two-year contract and an additional one that could only be activated unilaterally by the player.

Negotiations have not intensified and Mbappé is quietly following every step his club are taking, and they will have to add in the summer transfer window to increase their chances of extending his stay in Paris as sporting advisor Luis Campos’ first year in Paris has not been a success.

Nasser Al Khelaifi and Co breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday as Mbappé took part in an event at the Stade de France where he left a message that could be interpreted as a nod to his future at PSG.

Champions League the objective for Mbappé

When asked about his upcoming objectives, the Frenchman replied: “My next objective? To win the Champions League, I think. I’ve already played in a final, I’ve played in the semi-finals, the quarter-finals, the last 16... I’ve done everything except win (smiles). That’s all I need and I hope it’s as soon as possible. Where? At Paris Saint-Germain. I’m Parisian and I have a contract. So it will be at Paris Saint-Germain”.

Mbappé considered leaving

In October, there was the threat of Mbappé leaving in January when he considered himself ‘betrayed’ by the promises that Al Khelaifi could not fulfill on the day he signed his renewal at the Ligue 1 outfit.

PSG are not thinking about Mbappé playing elsewhere and are planning for next season with one of their priorities surrounding Mbappé with French players, who are representative of the club’s identity and will create a more positive environment around the club.
