Sporting Kansas City have announced that their week nine MLS 2024 season game against Inter Miami will be played at Arrowhead Stadium, instead of their usual Children’s Mercy Park ground. The match will be staged on Saturday, 13 April at the home of local NFL team Kansas City Chiefs who are the current Super Bowl champions.

Sporting also confirmed that general sale tickets for the game will go on sale to the general public next week (Tuesday, 16 January via Ticketmaster with the lowest priced ticket starting at $65).

Season ticket holders will have access to an exclusive pre-sale starting Wednesday, 10 January with fans also able to purchase additional tickets with added discount.

Reasons for move to Arrowhead Stadium

The president and CEO of Sporting KC, Jake Reid, spoke about the events that led to this change of scenario for the face to face between his club and Inter Miami of Messi, Suárez, Busquets and Jordi Alba: “This match has generated unprecedented interest since MLS released our schedule less than three weeks ago.”

He continued: “We believe this will be the largest event in Kansas City this spring and we are proud to partner with Arrowhead Events to provide an incredible experience for our fans and team. The opportunity to host this match, which will be Lionel Messi’s first for MLS in the Midwest (of the USA), is especially exciting.”

Arrowhead Stadium will host the 2024 Copa América

The home to NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs will also be one of the grounds used during the summers Copa América 2024 with the United States national side set to Uruguay on 1 July and assuming Luis Suárez is called up by Marcelo Bielsa, the MLS game affords the veteran striker to get a first taste of action at 76,000 capacity ground as opposed to the smaller traditional Sporting KC home with Children’s Mercy Park just holding 18,000 fans.
