Messi set to visit Washington: will he meet Trump?
The visit of 'Las Garzas' to Washington could bring together, in less than a year, the two absolute icons of football under the same presidential roof.
Inter Miami’s tour of South America ended in complete success. The spectacle of watching the reigning Major League Soccer champions, captained by Lionel Messi, became a contagious phenomenon.
What thousands of fans witnessed in Peru, Ecuador and Puerto Rico was the unity that allowed ‘Las Garzas’ to soar to the championship. Now it is time to relive the emotions that filled Chase Stadium in December 2025.
Three months after winning their first league title, the Fort Lauderdale side is set to visit the White House, continuing the long-standing tradition of inviting champions from across American sport.
Last week, headlines focused on Donald Trump and his desire to see Cristiano Ronaldo wearing his iconic number 7 on American pitches. However, as so often happens, Messi entered the picture once again, this time as a special guest and reigning champion.
According to a White House official, Messi and his teammates will visit the iconic residence of the President of the United States next Thursday, 5 March. It is understood that David Beckham was in contact with senior officials to help arrange the celebration of the Florida title.
The official, speaking anonymously to The Athletic, noted that Messi’s attendance has not yet been confirmed. Nevertheless, the visit to Trump’s residence remains on the itinerary for the Herons before they travel to the capital to face D.C. United on Saturday, 7 March.
With the World Cup approaching, the United States is eager for the Argentine star to attend. Should Messi make the trip, it would mark his first visit to Washington’s political heart and symbolically bring together two of the most influential figures in contemporary football on the same stage.
Trump has reportedly met several of the most prominent and debated personalities of his era in the build-up to this summer’s World Cup, which the United States will co-host alongside Canada and Mexico.
