Mexico to face Germany at the end of the year
As part of the planning for the 2026 World Cup, Mexico will play matches against top-level opponents.
Mexico will play against Germany at the end of 2023. The news was announced by Yon de Luisa, president of the Mexican Football Federation at a press conference where he presented the roadmap for the 2026 World Cup process and the changes in the internal structure of the FMF and in Liga MX.
As part of the improvements in sports planning, the FMF signed several commitments for the 2023-2026 cycle, including a unified Copa America in 2024, a new CONCACAF competition calendar that will include teams from other confederations, a high-profile event in the summer of 2025 to be played in North America, and the organisation of matches against ‘top-level’ opponents in 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Mexico will face Germany at the end of 2023. The details of the match, both the date and the venue, have yet to be finalised, according to De Luisa. German outlet Bild had reported that the match was in the pipeline, as the German Football Association’s main priority was to start getting to know the 2026 World Cup venue for its own preparations.
El Tri’s schedule in 2023
Mexico will start their schedule in March, when they will play two matches in the CONCACAF Nations League against Suriname (away) and Jamaica (home). They will also play in the Gold Cup in June and July.
