USMNT midfielder Weston McKennie has been at the centre of one of the biggest transfer stories in the January transfer window after sealing a loan move from Juventus to Leeds United, where he will join compatriots Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson.

McKennie’s arrival will give Leeds a boost as they look to secure their place in the English top flight for a third consecutive season, with head coach Jesse Marsch, another American, turning to McKennie as the club gear up for what will be a crucial second half of the season.

Speaking about his latest challenge, the 24-year-old midfielder gave his first interview since his move to England to teammate Adams, published on the Leeds United website, revealing his happiness at joining the Whites and how much he was looking forward playing alongside his USMNT teammates in the Premier League.

“It feels good to be a Leeds player, I’ve heard a lot of great things from you (Adams), Brenden Aaronson and Jesse Marsch, everyone tells me about the atmosphere here,” explained McKennie.

The midfielder said he was excited by the prospect of making his Premier League debut and realising his dream of playing in England, especially at Elland Road in front of the Leeds faithful.

“Obviously, I did my own research on the club and the support is wild, I’m really excited to be here and playing in the Premier League is a dream”, added the former Schalke 04 and Juventus star.

When will Weston McKennie make his home Premier League debut for Leeds United?

McKennie also spoke of his disappointment that Leeds’ next two matches will be played away from home, which means his first appearance at Elland Road will come at home to Manchester United on 12 February.

“I’m excited to play at Elland Road, unfortunately the first two games are away, but when we play at home I’m sure I’ll have such a big adrenaline rush.”

When will Weston McKennie make his Premier League debut for Leeds United?

McKennie will presumably make his debut on 5 February in the Whites’ next match away to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest, who are two spots and three points ahead of Leeds in the table. Then, in a quirk of the fixture list, the Yorkshire outfit will face the Red Devils at Old Trafford in the first of two matches between the teams in the space of five days; the clash in Manchester was due to be played in September but was postponed following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
