Mexico turns to its legends to reveal the 2026 World Cup roster
Via a video on June 1, 26 former players will reveal the players who will be representing Mexico at the tournament.

Mexico has finally settled the debate — no Beatles soundtrack, no Nordic‑style landscapes, no AI‑generated spectacle. Instead, the Mexican national team will unveil its 2026 World Cup roster through the voices of 26 of the most iconic former players in El Tri’s history, a decision made by the Mexican Football Federation (FMF).
A special video will feature legends such as Hugo Sánchez, Cuauhtémoc Blanco, Luis Hernández, and Alberto García Aspe, each announcing one of the 26 players headed to the World Cup. The roster reveal was originally scheduled for Monday, June 1, but could be released earlier, before FIFA’s deadline.
Mexico ultimately chose to spotlight its own history — 26 legends, one destiny, one World Cup — in a tribute video designed to celebrate the country’s greatest footballing figures.

How other national teams revealed their 26‑man rosters
The roster announcement has become one of the most creative traditions leading up to a World Cup, and several national teams have raised the bar with elaborate productions.
- England used The Beatles’ “Come Together” as the soundtrack for its reveal.
- Spain enlisted King Felipe VI to announce its 26 players.
- France referenced the tournament’s host nations in its video.
- Norway featured King Harald V delivering an emotional message, marking the country’s first World Cup appearance since 1998.
- Panama filmed its announcement on a helipad, with coach Thomas Christiansen presenting the list alongside sweeping shots of national landmarks.
- United States held an event in New York, preceded by a social‑media video where coach Mauricio Pochettino told his players: “If you’re watching this, it’s because you’re in. Enjoy it, guys, and see you in New York.”

Mexico’s final tune‑ups before the World Cup
Before Mexico kicks off its 2026 World Cup campaign, Javier Aguirre’s squad has two crucial friendlies left:
- Saturday, May 30 — vs. Australia in Pasadena, Baja California (8:00 PM ET) A final chance for fringe players to convince Aguirre.
- Thursday, June 4 — vs. Serbia in Toluca (8:00 PM ET) This will be the first match featuring the official 26‑man roster.
