The Mexico national team will continue their preparations for the FIFA World Cup with a friendly match against Paraguay on August 31 at Mercedes-Benz stadium. This game is not during the FIFA international break so only players from Liga MX will be available for head coach Gerardo Martino and he will have an opportunity to see who could be included in the final roster that will travel to Qatar in November.

Roster update

Unfortunately for Martino, two players will miss the friendly against the CONMEBOL side because they got injured over the weekend with their respective clubs. The first one is Henry Martín, who scored in Club América 3-1 win over Mazatlán on Saturday, and the second one is Sebastián Córdova, who got injured in the 1-1 draw against Pumas mid-week.

The Club América striker has been on peak form this tournament with six goals and four assists in 10 appearances. Henry Martín suffered a muscle injury on his left thigh against Mazatlán and he was replaced in 72nd minute by Federico Viñas. The Mexican international is expected to recover soon, but América have decided that it was best for him not to travel to Atlanta, Georgia to play against Paraguay.

So Gerardo Martino decided to call up Ángel Zaldivar from Chivas de Guadalajara to replace Martín for the upcoming friendly. The Mexican striker is eager to play in the World Cup and this will be his chance to make a case for himself to prove that he can be an option in attack for the Mexico national team.
