Mexico take on Australia on Saturday in the first of two friendly games as part of their MexTour 20th Anniversary celebrations. It will be the sixth time that the two national teams have met since 1970 and their first meeting since the FIFA Confederations Cup in May 2001.

It terms of combined squad value, the Socceroos are one of the most expensive rivals that El Tri will have faced this year.

It will be Jaime Lozano’s first game in charge as a full-time coach - he was given the task of taking the team to this summer’s Gold Cup tournament in an interim role - a test he passed with flying colours.

Australia will undoubtedly prove much tougher opponents due to the quality they have on board - players who individually have a high value within the world market.

To compare the two squads in terms of their combined market value, Mexico’s current squad has a value close to $170 million, according to specialist site Transfermarkt.

Australia meanwhile, go into this weekend’s match with a squad valued by the same site at $46 million - equivalent to just 27 percent of their rivals.

Looking at both national teams individually, the player with the highest market value who will take to the field at AT&T stadium in Dallas is Mexico’s Edson Álvarez who, following his transfer to Premier League side West Ham is now listed in the international market at around $37 million. Forward Santi Giménez, who impressed during his debut season at Feyenoord, is rated at $25 million.

As for Australia, Leicester City centre-back Harry Souttar is the Socceroos’ most valuable player - currently priced at over $15 million. After him is left winger Riley McGree, with a market value of $4 million.
