Miguel Herrera: “I was wrong to call Tigres an ‘old team’”
The Xolos coach spoke about the infamous comments he made during a press conference in a chat with Ruso Zamolginy and David Faitelson.
Miguel Herrera has admitted that he made a mistake. In conversation with Damian Ruso Zamolginy and David Failtelson on the Línea de 4 program, the coach spoke about his time in charge at Tigres and specifically, about the unfortunate comments he made aimed at some of the players in his squad. He also wanted to clarify that several of the players who were brought in were not requested by him as he looked back on the team that he saved from relegation.

Setting the record straight
The 55-year-old coach explained, “I actually said that it was an old team but with a lot of presence. As a team, Tigres still has a strong backbone with players of great importance and great maturity like Nahuel, Guido Pizarro, Gignac… Later, players who had a lot of quality arrived but young players; they have rejuvenated the team, they needed that renewal.”
David Faitelson insisted on the issue of the controversial statement, to which Miguel Herrera responded that at the end of that infamous press conference, he went to see his players and admitted to them that he was wrong: “I asked them for an apology in front of everyone inside the locker room,” he said.

Facing the drop
Later, Faitelson questioned him about how Xolos would compete in a tournament in which promotion and relegation existed: “In my case, I was in charge of teams that were battling relegation. In my first opportunity as a coach, I took over at Atlante and fortunately we were saved. I took Monterrey, Tecos, my first spell with Tijuana... Without any doubt, when there is relegation, the lower part of the table becomes very interesting...” Herrera concluded.
