According to multiple reports, the MLS team is interested in signing the Polish striker this summer after the World Cup.
MLS team confirms interest in Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski and is pushing for his signing
The name of Robert Lewandowski has once again surfaced on the radar of Major League Soccer, with Chicago Fire FCemerging as a particularly interested party. The club had previously explored the possibility of signing the Barcelona striker, though talks never progressed beyond initial interest at the time.
Now, with the European season entering its decisive stretch – especially in LaLiga – and with an eye on the second half of the MLS campaign once the World Cup concludes, Chicago appear to have renewed their pursuit. The franchise is once again positioning itself to land the Polish forward, whose future at FC Barcelona remains uncertain.
In an interview with Ben Jacobs of talkSPORT, Chicago Fire sporting director Gregg Broughton acknowledged the club’s long-standing interest, though he stopped short of revealing any concrete developments.
“Robert is a player MLS is interested in. In this league, those types of players are priorities for the league rather than the clubs themselves. So we have tried to bring a player of that caliber to Chicago. Robert is still a Barcelona player, and it wouldn’t be right to speak about someone who is still under contract with another club,” he explained.
Lewandowski weighing Chicago move
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, Chicago Fire are now stepping up efforts to secure Lewandowski’s signing ahead of the second half of the season.
The same outlet reports that the MLS side would be willing to make him one of the league’s highest-paid players, with a salary package reaching up to $20 million including bonuses. That figure would place him alongside top earners such as Heung-Min Son and Lionel Messi.
