Mohamed Salah is having another dream season with Liverpool, once again showing himself to be the main attacker of the team led (for the final time) by Jürgen Klopp. He has scored 16 goals in the Premier League season so far, placing him only behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland and level with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

In the midst of Liverpool’s battle with Arsenal and Manchester City for the title this season, Salah spoke to ESPN Argentina, in which he was asked about Alexis Mac Allister’s time at Anfield.

However, the answer that has gone viral on social media is Salah’s response to being questioned about his favourite Argentine footballer.

“Messi, I love Messi” says Salah

‘The Pharaoh’, as he is affectionately known by fans, did not hesitate to ensure that Lionel Messi - who is currently injured - is his favourite Argentine player, a position that he occupies along with his teammate at Liverpool, who is in fine form and led his club - along with Salah - to a much-needed win over Sheffield United in mid-week.

Salah also made sure to mention former striker Gabriel Batistuta, proudly admitting that he owns a signed shirt from the former Fiorentina marksman after the pair met in Buenos Aires.

Apart from Mac Allister... Messi, I love Messi. Messi is Messi. I also like Batistuta, I met him once in Argentina I think when I was there and he signed his jersey for me,” Salah revealed.

With eight games left to play in the Premier League, Liverpool are looking to seal to the title ahead of both Arsenal and City, giving the perfect farewell to Jürgen Klopp, who will leave the club at the end of the current season after 8 years on Merseyside.

The Reds currently lead the league table with 70 points, two more than Arsenal (68) and three more than City (67), meaning all remaining matches for all three teams feel as nervy as cup finals. Coming up for Klopp’s team are games against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Fulham, Everton, West Ham, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Wolves.

The possibility of a ‘treble’ is feasible for Liverpool: they have sealed the Carabao Cup and the Europa League is in their sights. The draw served them a tie against Italian side Atalanta in the quarter-finals and there is already talk about the dream final against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen.
