Moisés Caicedo admits that he wants to leave at Brighton’s awards night
The Chelsea target did not hold back at the team’s end of season awards night, revealing that he does want a transfer away this summer.
The future of Brighton and Hove Albion star Moisés Caicedo has been the subject of much speculation all summer. At last the man himself appears to have given his thoughts on the subject, but he may not have selected the best place to make the announcement.
Sussex World reports that Caicedo told guests at the Brighton & Hove Albion 2022/23 awards evening that he wants to leave the club this summer.
Last week Chelsea had a second bid worth around £80 million ($102m) rejected for Caicedo.
Caicedo was on stage to collect the award for Players’ Player of the Season, highlighting his value to the team. He would go on to take home Fans’ Player of the Season too and paid tribute to the Brighton supporters:
“Thank you to everyone for everything and all the fans for your support in every game. I’m so happy.”
He continued: “Thank you, fans. Without your support, it wouldn’t be possible. I do this for my family; they are my inspiration.”
Will Moisés Caicedo go to Brighton?
The Ecuadorian has become one of the most talked-about young midfielders in Europe after impressing in an overachieving Brighton team last season. Still aged just 21, Caicedo was signed from Independiente del Valle for £4.5 million just two years ago.
Brighton are now demanding £100 million, more than 20 times the price they paid for him, from Chelsea.
Back in January it was Arsenal who looked most likely to snap up the young midfielder. But they had two sizeable bids rejected and Brighton have continued to reject offers from Chelsea this summer.
Why are Brighton so unwilling to sell? Because they don’t need to offload players to secure their finances. The Seagulls are world leaders when it comes to identifying talented young players and have managed to sell some of them for a huge profit.
The sales of Ben White, Marc Cucurella and Alexis Mac Allister in consecutive years have brought in more than £135 million and Caicedo recently signed a contract extension that ties him to the club until 2027. Brighton hold all the cards and owner Tony Bloom will not accept anything other than an exorbitant offer.
