Tigres UANL went into GEODIS Park and came out with an important 1-0 win over Nashville FC in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semifinals.

Tigres had a couple more chances to add to their lead, and might have if it wasn't for Brian Schwake who had to make six saves just to make sure his team are still in the fight when they go down to Mexico next week. The second leg from Nuevo Leon will be played next Wednesday, May 6th at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Cristian Espinoza was the dangerman for Nashville all night. Whether he was dribbling at defenders, putting in dangerous crosses, or creating goal scoring chances himself he was at the center of everything Nashville did in the attacking third. This time Nahuel Guzman was up to the task with some quick reflexes to keep a clean sheet on a night that he saw very few shots on his target.

Tigres UANL got a massive result away from home in the Concacaf Champions Cup, beating Nashville FC 1-0 from GEODIS Park. Anglel Correa broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute and that was the difference on Tuesday night.

Nashville actually came out the better side through 20 minutes. They even scored a goal early on, but it was ruled offside after Hany Mukhtar nodded home a header that was sent across the face of goal by Madrigal. The only problem was the cross that came previous to that play was ruled offside.

That seemed to take the wind out of the sails of Nashville and Tigres started to impose themselves. It took a moment of brilliance from former Atletico Madrid man Angel Correa who took a touch and sent it steaming past the Nashville keeper for just his second goal allowed all tournament.

FT

THAT'S GOING TO DO IT HERE FROM NASHVILLE!!!

It's Angel Correa's moment of magic that makes the difference in this first leg. We still have 90 more minutes from Mexico to settle scores.

90+4'

Espinoza tried the one time volley from the right side hoping to center that ball in, but he miscalculated that and that went flying wide of the target.

90+3

Do Nashville have one more chance at goal in them here under their own roof?

90+2

Correa dancing along the end line and found Lainez in the box. Somehow he found the space in between a few defenders and laced one on goal. Schwake with another save to keep his team in this tie.

90'

Five extra minutes coming from Nashville.

88'

Gignac coming into the game for the final minutes and he will replace Brunetta.

87'

Espinoza's center was headed up in the air, and Guzman came to claim but was undercut by Palacios who stumbled more than anything and that should save him for a second yellow.

86'

Palacios shown a card for taking a swipe at Reyes in the box.

86'

Great ball again from Espinoza off the free kick from distance and Guzman came off his line but misjudged it and was lucky to see that go out for a corner.

85'

Araujo shown a card after taking Mukhtar down for one too many times tonight.

84'

Great ball in from Espinoza that was begging for a touch on goal but none came and that chance goes wandering.

84'

Corner kick to come after Qasem tried to dribble around a defender in the corner.

83'

Qasem with a long range effort that took a short hop in front of Guzman, but he unconventionally makes the save by rolling it into his own path off his chest.

81'

Free kick swung in by Brunetta and that needed to be punched away by Schwake.

80'

Lovitz in for Najar and Pacius in for Madrigal for the final 10 minutes.

79'

Reyes took a sweeping challenge by Najar in the corner and he stays down for a little while longer before the free kick following the foul.

77'

Baker-Whiting with a cross into the box and that is taken by Guzman again.

76'

Corner in from Espinoza and Palacios was the closest there but it bounced easily for Guzman.

75'

Palacios with a low drive shot from outside the area and that took a dangerous deflection in front of goal that goes rolling out for a corner.

75'

Tigres dropping back and making sure that there is no room to operated in the final third for Nashville.

73'

Counter on as Tigres found some room with Nashville pushed up. Lainez played it square across the top of the box and Flores cut into the middle of the box from the left side but his shot on goal was easily taken by Schwake.

70'

Final 20 minutes and let's see if there is a little more desperation shown from Nashville in their home portion of the tie.

68'

Espinoza won it back in the right corner and sent an early ball into Madrigal was it fly an inch or two over his head.

67'

Lainez comes into the game for Aguirre as the second sub for Tigres.

65'

Najar sent a ball in from the right side for Madrigal on the back post, but that pass came in a little too high for the striker.

64'

Espinoza on the right side, and he takes a long touch into the box, and wanted to put it on frame but the defenders closed down and one of the three in between Espinoza and the goal got a piece of that to take the sting out of the shot.

62'

Vigon looked to surprise Schwake with a half volley from the right side of the box, but that effort was always rising.

60'

Qasem will replace Muyl at the hour mark looking to bring a little spark to the attack.

60'

Correa leading the charge down the middle of the park, and he laid it off for Vigon who sent the left footed shot high wide and handsome.

58'

Brunetta's corner is headed up and falls to Vigon who looked for the spectacular volley from outside the area.

58'

Brunetta getting in the box and Yazbek had to just clear it out for a corner.

55'

Aguirre with a long header at the top of the area after Brunetta touched it to the striker with a one touch cross from the left side.

54'

Corcoran with a run to the end line and Espinoza found him. Quick ball in was kicked away by Guzman before a Nashville player cold get on the end of that pass into the middle.

52'

A couple of half chances for Nashville but the defense was well positioned on each of those shots that never reached goal to test Guzman.

50'

Another great save from Schwake after Correa's shot from outside the area was deflected right in front of goal by Brunetta. Quick thinking from the Nashville keeper who is keeping his side in this tie.

48'

Espinoza from a tight angle from outside the box, and either mishit the cross or looked to surprise the keeper, but that shot was always rising.

47'

Fantastic throw in from his own half from Najar sends Madrigal in behind the defense but they were able to recover their defensive shape and the threat it extinguished.

46'

Herrera comes out of the break on the bench and it's Flores who will replace him on the right wing.

46'

WE ARE BACK IN NASHVILLE FOR THE SECOND 45!!!

Espinoza has been the danger man for this Nashville side. Every ball he touches, every cross he makes, every intervention he has in the attacking third turns into a scoring chance but so far Nashville have come up empty.

The one moment of magic came from the former Atletico Madrid mad, Angel Correa. A bouncing ball at the top of the area, and the Argentine takes a delicate touch to tee up a rocket on the goal of Schwake. The Nashville keeper couldn't do anything about the shot that was hit with plenty of pace.

Tigres are up after the first half, but if you wanted the first 15 minutes it was Nashville looking like the more eager team to get on the board first. The best defensive side in the tournament looked like they wanted to force the issue early on, and even scored a goal that was whistled offside. Mukhtar nodded home a header that was sent back across the box by Madrigal, but the cross in before that was ruled offside and the goal was wiped off the board.

HT

IT´S HALFTIME HERE FROM NASHVILLE!!!

45+4

Yazbek with a shot from outside the area and that skies high of the target after some good passing in the area. Najar had the best look to put a ball in from the right side, but it was cleared away and fell to Yazbek who couldn't keep his effort down.

45+2

Espinoza with another early cross looking for Madrigal, but he couldn't stretch for that pass that came bouncing in a little to far in front of him.

45'

Four more minutes added to the first half.

45'

Espinoza on the right side of the box and he poked it square to Madrigal who couldn't get in front of Angulo for the tap in.

44'

Herrera just pulled up and grabbed at his hamstring. He walked off the pitch for a moment, but will return at least for the end of the first half.

43'

Espinoza with a one-two with Mukhtar but the defender came in just in time and that 50/50 ball pops up and falls into the hands of Guzman.

42'

Tigres making sure to set up with plenty of players behind the ball. They know they have an away goal to protect and they will want to carry this lead into the halftime break.

40'

It was not an easy free kick from quite a ways away but Brunetta hit Aguirre who flicked it on goal and it needed a save from Schwake who pushed it away.

39'

Woledzi with a lagging leg that got a piece of Brunetta and that will be a free kick for Tigres from quite a ways out.

38'

Tigres seem to have taken full control after the goal. They were already controlling the midfield but now Nashville seem to be chasing a bit erratically.

34'

Schwake got a hand to that shot, but the power and the surprise factor made it nearly impossible to save. That is just the second goal that Nashville has conceded in this tournament.

33'

GOOOOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL!!!!

Angel Correa out of nowhere!!!! A ball was bouncing at the top of the area, and he took a touch before unleashing a rocket into the back of the net!!!

32'

Best chance of the night comes from Tigres who haven't created much but a bit of pressure turns into a nearly costly mistake.

31'

Corner kick from Brunetta was too heavy and Tigres will retreat and set up again.

29'

What a save from Schwake after some sloppy play in the back from Nashville. Correa pounced on a loose ball, put an early ball right on to the chest of Brunetta but a kick save was enough to stop the opening goal from sliding by the keeper.

28'

Guzman off his line to collect the corner kick sent in from the near side by Espinoza.

27'

A cross from Baker-Whiting fell for Espinoza and he laced a shot on goal but it was saved well by Guzman.

26'

Ball from the back to Aguirre who was asked to chase into the box, but Schwake was off his line quickly and grabbed it before any trouble came.

24'

Mukhtar and Araujo getting acquainted after an unnecessary clearance from Araujo on a ball that had already rolled over the chalk.

22'

Reyes to Agurrie on the cross from the end line and that was nodded back across goal. Brunetta had a chance at it but he tried to make an acrobatic over head kick that just couldn't connect on that ball that was behind him.

21'

Tigres seem content to pass the ball around the back at the moment. Not really showing to much interest in getting their guys up top involved, at least at the moment. Remember how important away goals are in this tournament.

19'

That´s going to do it for Tagseth's night. He comes out immediately after a word with his manager and it's Corcoran coming in early in the 1st half.

17'

Tagseth just pulled up along the touchline and is grabbing at his quad, and that is going to be his night.

15'

Not much happening after a quick start from Nashville. a couple of fouls followed by a couple of throw ins and Tigres is looking to maybe take a little steam out of this game at the minute.

13'

Tigres trying to get Correa involved in any and every possession they have but Nashville know that and they are being awfully vigilant.

11'

Mukhtar sends another cross in for Madrigal and that was collected off the short hop by Guzman.

10'

Opening corner swung in by Brunetta and that was cleared away by Nashville.

9'

High pressure from Tigres forces a mistake from the keeper Schwake in the back. Correa stepped in to take over possession and it fell for Herrera whose shot was deflected over the cross bar.

8'

It's been a busy first 8 minutes, but it's been one way traffic so far. Nashville coming out showing that they aren't just looking to defend their goal before heading down to Nuevo Leon.

7'

Mukhtar nods it in to the back of the net on a nodded ball across the box, but there was a pass on the overlap before the cross was made and the flag went up to spoil the celebration here from Nashville.

5'

Espinoza's second corner is cleared away but the ball finds his feet again and he sent a dangerous low ball towards the front post towards Mukhtar, but it just deflected off him and rolled out for a goal kick.

4'

Espinoza back into the mix after a halfhearted clearance and that deflects out for a corner kick.

4'

Espinoza with the corner kick but Aguirre was there on the front post to clear it away.

3'

Nashville happy to pass it around the back to start things off, and that led to a surge up the pitch which lead to a corner for the home side.

2'

It's a disciplined defensive squad in Nashville taking on a Tigres team that will want to attack from the start. Let's see who comes out and dictates the pace early on.

1'

The rain doesn't seem to have affected the fans one bit. They waited the hour to start this match up, got their panchos on, and let the anticipation grow.

THE FIRST LEG OF THE CONCACAF CHAMPIONS CUP IS UNDERWAY FROM A SOGGY NASHVILLE!!!

The players are out on the pitch. The anthem is playing and we are set to get started here from Nashville.

We should be just about 10 minutes from kicking off this first leg of the Concacaf Champions Cup semis if the weather cooperates. It will be wet, it will be soggy, and it might get a little messy from Nashville.

This is without question the biggest game in club history for Nashville SC. They have only been around for a few years, but they have a fantastic chance to do something that clubs that have been around for a lot longer have yet to do: make it to the CCC final.

The players look like they are getting back to the pitch for warm ups although there is still heavy rain falling down at GEODIS Park. It doesn't´t seem like the rain is going to let up too much tonight.

Tigres fans have made the trip all the way up from Nuevo Leon to Nashville to cheer their side on, and they are making themselves felt and heard at GEODIS Stadium. The rain is not going to quiet them down. They are ready to wait out the storm and lift their team past Nashville before heading back home for the second leg.

This was Gingac and Tigres arriving to the stadium earlier today. They have some famous names and familiar faces if you aren't too up to date with your Tigres UANL squad.

This will eventually be the XI of the Nashville SC side for Brian Callaghan. New reports are saying that the match is expected to kickoff at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Kickoff to this first leg has been delayed from Tennessee as thunderstorms hover over GEODIS Park. They are monitoring the situation and the game should be commencing at the top of the hour.

Guido Pizzaro has his XI set for this first leg of the semifinal. It's Aguirre, Herrera and Correa up front for this very attacking minded Liga MX side.

Return leg date

The first leg is being played in Nashville tonight, and no matter what happens Tigres has shown that nothing is over until the second 90 minutes is over. They have been a fantastic side especially when facing adversity, and no matter what happens tonight, they will be betting on themselves to take care of business back in Nuevo León. The second leg will take place at the Estadio Universitario on May 5th with the winner set to meet the winner of the LAFC and Toluca semifinal.

Nashville's history in CCC

Nashville have only been around in the MLS since 2020. They made their debut in the league just a month before COVID his, and since then have appeared in the CCC just once before this year. That came in 2024 when the got to the round of 16 before getting knocked out by Inter Miami. They have made their return, and exacted their revenge over Inter Miami, and now they set their sights on the final as the club as already made history with a run to the semis.

Tigres history in CCC

Tigres UANL's first appearance in the CCC came back in 2011. For a Liga MX side that has been around for six decades, that’s a long time to wait to debut in the tournament. While they don’t have as extensive of a history as Club America or Cruz Azul, they do make noise when they do make the tournament. They have been to the CCC Final on four occasions. Their first came in 2015/16, but they lost. They returned the next year, and fell short in the final again. One more trip to the final in 2019 was the final obstacle they needed before finally breaking the seal and winning the Concacaf Champions Cup in 2020 when they beat Los Angeles FC. They are looking for a fifth trip to the final and a second CCC title.

League form: Tigres

The Clausura hasn't treated Tigres too well over the first 17 matches of the season. They are sitting seventh in Liga MX, right around the middle of the pack. Pumas are the league leaders at the moment, with 36 points, tied with Chivas, and Tigres is sitting 11 points back of both of those clubs. They are however, coming off of one of their largest victories in Liga MX with a 5-1 drubbing of Mazatlan FC over the weekend, thanks to a brace from Brunetta.

League form: Nashville

Nashville have been rolling in the MLS, and they have been doing it with a similar formula that they have been doing it in the CCC. Defense has been the dominant force for the club that sits at the top of the Eastern Conference with 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. They have scored 21 goals and allowed just 6 in 9 matches. Two of those goals came in their last match against Charlotte FC over the weekend but they were able to win that game 4-2 in front of their home fans.

Tigres star watch

The top scorer for the Liga MX side in the league is Juan Francisco Brunetta who has 18 goals in 40 matches between the Clausura and Apertura this season. He has yet to score in the CCC, but Rodrigo Aguirre has scored 4 goals in the five matches he's played in this tournament. Ozziel Herrera has scored another three goals in the CCC, but none were more important than the 5-1 in the 98th minute scored by Fernando Gorriaran Fontes that secured them passage to the quarterfinals against Cincinnati.

Nashville star watch

When a side has conceded one goal in six matches, you have to figure your star watch revolves around your keeper. The 24 year old shot stopper, Brian Schwake made a total of 12 saves over the two legs against Cruz Azul, including 8 saves in the second leg. He has seen 20 shots in the CCC over six matches, and has saved 19 of them. He will have to be just as brilliant tonight against a team that has been scoring goals for fun in this tournament.

How they got here: Tigres

Tigres has had one of the wilder rides to the semis in this edition of the CCC. Nothing has been easy for them, but for the neutral fans, their ties have been exhilarating. They played Canadian side Forge FC in the first round, and after a 0-0 draw from Ontario, they won 4-1 in the second leg to down Forge. Then came the round of 16 tie against FC Cincinnati. The MLS side won the opening leg 3-0 in front of their home fans only to lose the tie in heartbreaking fashion with a 98th minute goal from Fernando Gorriaran to send Cincinnati packing and advance to the quarterfinals. Their tie against the Sounders was full of fireworks and drama, and after 180 minutes, they booked their ticket back to the semifinals.

How they got here: Nashville

Nashville are making a historic run in this tournament and they are doing it thanks to their impenetrable defense. Through the first round, round of 16 and the quarters they have conceded just one goal. That is five matches out of six with a clean sheet in the CCC. They met Atletico Ottawa in the first round and after a 2-0 win in Canada they demolished the Canadians 5-0 in the second leg. Then they met Inter Miami in the round of 16, and after holding Messi and company to a 0-0 draw in Nashville a Cristian Espinoza goal in the 74th minute equaled out a Messi goal in the 7th to give Nashville the away goal advantage. Then they would take on seven time CCC Champions Cruz Azul and hold them scoreless through 180 minutes.

Tigres last game

Tigers took on MLS side, the Seattle Sounders, in the last round of the CCC and it came down to an away goal that made the difference for the Liga MX side. Tigres got a favorable result in the first leg over the Sounders, thanks to two second half goals. Johnathan Herrera scored the first goal in the 51st minute and then on own goal from Jackson Ragen set up the Mexicans for a second leg in which they would just have to protect their two goal lead. The Sounders got an early goal to give them hope in the 11th minute thanks to a Albert Rusnak goal, but Joaquim's 31st minute away goal made it nearly impossible for the Sounders to mount a comeback. Needing to win by three goals, the Souners turned up the attacking pressure scoring two more goals but were unable to get the fourth and decisive goal and Tigres held on to advance thanks to the away goal rule.

Nashville's last game

Nashville took on CCC titans Club America in the quarterfinals of the tournament. The seven time champions went to Nashville for the first leg of the tie, and shared the spoils in a goalless draw from GEODIS Park. It was a defensive match that set up an all or nothing match from Mexico. It took just one goal to take down the kings of the CCC, and it came in the 51st minute of the second leg courtesy of Hany Mukhtar. That was enough to push Nashville past Club America as the defense tightened up for the rest of the way, holding the Liga MX side scoreless for the entire 180 minutes to book their ticket to the semis.

We are live from Tennessee

Hello everyone and welcome to Nashville where tonight's hosts have already made a historic run to the semis in just their second appearance in the Concacaf Champions Cup. The club that joined the MLS in 2020 is as close as they have ever been to a continental title, but to get to the final they are going to have to get past Mexican giants Tigres UANL. The Liga MX side know what it’s like to hoist this title, but are looking to add some more silverware to their trophy cabinet in Nuevo León. It the first of two legs with the stakes as high as ever. A trip to the final is on the line, and both teams know they can inch closer to the championship match with a good performance here tonight.
