Nemanja Matic has announced his decision to leave Manchester United. The experienced midfielder took to social media on Friday to confirm his decision.

After five seasons at Old Trafford, Matic will leave the Premier League club at the end of the current season. The Serbian player arrived in 2017, just in time to play in the European Super Cup final that was eventually won by Real Madrid.

United failed to win a trophy in Matic’s time at the club and his next club is still unknown.

Matic thanks fans

“After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision.

“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.

“I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible,” he wrote on Instagram.

United players set to depart

Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Lee Grant have contracts expiring at United and are expected to leave at the end of the season.
