New trailer released for ‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend’

The upcoming Apple TV+ documentary series will follow Lionel Messi and Argentina’s road to World Cup glory in 2022.

Little over a year on from Argentina’s historic triumph in Qatar, the full trailer for ‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend’ has been released.

Lionel Messi finally secured the one prize that had always eluded him when he guided La Albiceleste to World Cup glory in 2022. The soccer world followed with bated breath as the Argentina captain dragged his side to the final where they faced off against reigning holders and pre-tournament favorites France.

The story will be told in a four-part docuseries, available to stream on Apple TV+.

The series promises to tell the “thrilling story of the planet’s top living athlete, his loyal supporters across Argentina, and those who made the pilgrimage across the globe to witness his epic World Cup win.”

Release date for Lionel Messi World Cup documentary

All four episodes of the series will be released globally on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, 21 February 2024.

‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend’ will be released on the same day that Inter Miami kick off their 2024 season with their MLS opener. They host Real Salt Lake at DRV PNK Stadium.

The series is executive produced by Tim Pastore , Patrick Milling Smith, Brian Carmody, Matt Renner, Jenna Millman and Juan Camilo Cruz.

Does Lionel Messi appear in the World Cup documentary?

The 36-year-old makes relatively few media appearances, preferring instead to let his feet do the talking. But Apple TV+ have confirmed that Lionel Messi is heavily involved in the upcoming docuseries, offering in-depth conversations and personal interviews.

“‘Messi’s World Cup: The Rise of a Legend’ highlights the thrilling story of the planet’s top living athlete, his loyal supporters across Argentina, and those who made the pilgrimage across the globe to witness his epic World Cup win,” a press release explains.

Alongside the reigning Ballon d’Or winner, teammates, coaches, supporters, opposition players and soccer legends will recount the incredible story of Lionel Messi’s World Cup triumph.
