Newcastle United - Manchester City: times, how to watch on TV, stream online in US/UK

Newcastle United take on Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday, in one of the intriguing fixtures of the weekend. Eddie Howe’s side have taken four points from their opening two Premier League games. City will be looking to make it three wins on the bounce when they travel to St James’ Park.

The reigning champions have recorded two convincing wins over West Ham and Howe’s former club Bournemouth, but the Newcastle boss wants his side to go into the clash full of confidence.

“I always say to them, ‘judge yourself against the best’. It’s a challenge to be attacked and relished rather than feared. I think our defenders are in a good place at the moment - I think as a team we’ve defended well. There’s always room for improvement but I think this is the ultimate test, not just as a back four but the team in front, Howe said pre-match.

No World Cup for Haaland

With Belgium, England, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain all having qualified for this year’s World Cup, City will have no shortage of representatives, however, striker Erling Haaland will not be involved after Norway missed out.

Speaking ahead of the Newcastle game, Pep Guardiola says that does not mean his new No.9 will play more often in the first months of the season.

“Absolutely not,” he told mancity.com when asked if that would be the case.

“The decision we are going to take here until the World Cup will not be thinking one second about what is going to happen at the World Cup, like the World Cup is not going to think one second about what is going to happen in the second part of the season for the clubs.

“Erling is going to play because we believe he has to play and he has to play really good and he has to feel he has competition in the squad because Julian can play too. Every decision we are going to make is for the benefit to win that game. Unfortunately for him Norway cannot go to the World Cup.

“We will have one- or two-weeks holidays and after come back to training and after the World Cup be ready to continue.”
