Not the FA Cup final, the Premier League or LaLiga: The game you should watch this weekend could end 41 years of history
After 41 years of Celtic and Rangers dominance, Hearts are one game away from changing Scottish soccer forever.

This weekend, Chelsea face Manchester City in the FA Cup, while the Premier League relegation battle could take another twist. Real Madrid and Barcelona will be in action in LaLiga, even if Spain’s title race has already been decided. But the one game you should really do everything possible to watch this weekend takes place in Scotland, where a historic 41-year streak could finally be broken on Saturday. Or not.
Title-deciding matchups on the final day of the season are few and far between in soccer, but that’s exactly what we’ll get as the 2025-26 Scottish Premiership season reaches its dramatic conclusion.
For much of the last four decades, Scotland’s top flight has essentially been a two-horse race between Celtic and Rangers, the Glasgow clubs who have both enjoyed reasonable spells as Champions League regulars.

Scotland’s old order could finally collapse
Since 1984-85, when Aberdeen finished top of the table, no other club has won the Scottish title. Celtic have claimed 22 of the last 40 championships, while Rangers have scooped the other 18.
Following Rangers’ demotion to Scotland’s fourth tier in 2012 after a financial crisis, Celtic have won 13 of the last 14 titles. Rangers, meanwhile, captured nine straight championships during their most dominant spell between 1988 and 1997.
That could all come to an end on Saturday, a possibility few soccer fans in Scotland, or beyond, ever truly believed was realistic given the enormous financial gap between the Glasgow giants, especially Celtic, and the rest.
Now, however, Heart of Midlothian are just one game away from immortality.
Last summer, Brighton owner Tony Bloom invested almost £10 million ($13.5 million) in the Edinburgh-based club in exchange for a 29% stake. Hearts, who last won the league in 1960, have been top of the table since Sept. 27 and head into the final weekend with a one-point advantage over Celtic.

Hearts one result away from history
A draw will be enough to clinch a title that even the most ardent Hearts fan probably didn’t see coming at the start of the season.
There is, however, one small complication.
They must visit Celtic in the final matchup of the campaign, setting up what promises to be one of the most nerve-shredding and dramatic endings to a league season anywhere in the soccer world.
Celtic vs Hearts title decider: Date, time, how to watch in the United States
The good news is that, if you are in the United States, there is a way to tune in. Celtic vs. Hearts will be broadcast on CBS Sports and Paramount+.
The bad news? Kickoff on Saturday, May 16 is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. local time in Glasgow, which means a 7:30 a.m. ET start and an even more brutal 4:30 a.m. PT alarm clock.
Still, the chance to watch history unfold is surely worth an early start.
