LA Galaxy added another signing on Wednesday after officially announcing the incorporation of the Uruguayan defender Martín Cáceres. The central defender will be under Greg Vanney’s orders for the remainder of the season, with a possibility of a contract extension in 2023.

The South American plans to regain his form in hopes of joining Uruguay at the Qatar 2022 World. In addition, his contribution and leadership in defense are expected to be vital during the Western Conference franchise’s fight for playoff spots and later the league championship.

Cáceres, 35 years old, has played three World Cups with Uruguay, three editions of the Copa América and one Confederations Cup. He has his fourth World Cup tournament in his sights but much will depend on the role he plays the remainder of the campaign with the Los Angeles Galaxy.

The top of the top at club level

Sebastián Cáceres has had a long journey through European football, highlighting his time with teams such as FC Barcelona, Juventus, Sevilla, Southampton, Hellas Verona, Fiorentina, Cagliari and Lazio. His most successful stage at club level was with the Vecchia Signora, where he managed to win six league titles, two Italian Cups and three Italian Super Cups.
