Paolo Maldini could be Manchester United’s next big coup as part of a major restructuring at Old Trafford by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who is on the verge of acquiring 25% of the Premier League club. According to The Mirror, the INEOS owner is weighing up who should become the club’s sporting director and the main candidate is former AC Milan defender and sporting director Maldini.
Maldini leaves Milan
In June, Maldini left his role with Italian giants Milan. With his legendary playing days over, he returned to San Siro in 2018, building the team that eventually won the scudetto in 2022, 11 years after the club’s last league success.
Offer from Saudi Arabia
Maldini’s time with the Rossoneri subsequently came to an end and he is now available for a new adventure in a sporting capacity. He has had an offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad, which he rejected. The Premier League would be an ideal destination for the former Italian defender, who is well aware of the enormity of a club like Manchester United.
