Paris Saint-Germain ultras unfurl banners criticising Inter Miami star Lionel Messi and Al Hilal’s Neymar
Former Barcelona stars Messi and Neymar were unable to guide PSG to Champions League success and not hugely popular among fans.
Inter Miami star Lionel Messi and new Al Hilal signing Neymar didn’t leave Paris Saint-Germain on especially good terms, it’s fair to say. There was little love for the former Barcelona duo from supporters by the end of their spells with French club, which was again highlighted at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, and even at The Herons’ DRV PNK Stadium.
PSG fans’ banners in Paris...and Miami
During PSG’s 3-1 home victory over Lens, in which Kylian Mbappé scored twice, ultra fans unfurled a banner taking aim at the Brazilian winger, with one displaying the same message later appearing in Fort Lauderdale.
Messi in New York for MLS debut for Inter Miami
Whether the phrase in question is perhaps not the most natural-sounding English you’ve ever heard, the point being made is perfectly understandable. “Finally rid of the rude” suggests the supporters who arranged them were not overly enamoured with the behaviour of either Neymar or Messi, who actually making his MLS debut in New York (against New York Red Bulls) when then the banner was hoisted up at his home stadium in Miami.
PSG ultras know as Collectif Ultras first revealed the banner to “celebrate” Neymar’s departure, and then organised for the same thing to be done for Messi in the United States. Despite showing flashes of their best form in Paris, neither quite hit the heights of their Barcelona days and were even whistled by sections of the support in the French capital.
