Premier League: Possible Chelsea starting lineup against Arsenal
Chelsea host Arsenal on Sunday, with Graham Potter’s Blues looking to end a three-game winless streak in the Premier League.
After suffering a hamstring injury in the Champions League in midweek, Ben Chilwell will play no part for Chelsea against Arsenal, and is set to miss the World Cup.
Chilwell joins Chelsea injury list, but Kovacic returns
The England left-back picked up the problem in stoppage time of Wednesday’s 2-1 win over Dinamo Zagreb, and in a statement issued on Saturday the club said he is not expected to recover in time for the tournament in Qatar.
N’Golo Kante (thigh), Kepa Arrizabalaga (foot), Wesley Fofana (knee) and Reece James (knee) all remain out for Chelsea, while Carney Chukwuemeka is also unavailable with a hamstring issue.
However, midfielder Mateo Kovacic is back in contention after sitting out the Zagreb victory with a calf complaint.
Blues out to end winless Premier League sequence
Having been thumped 4-1 by Potter’s former club Brighton last weekend, Chelsea head into in Sunday’s Premier League clash on a run of three top-flight games without a victory.
The Seagulls’ 3-2 win over Wolves on Saturday has provisionally pushed the Blues, who are three points off fourth place, down to seventh in the table.
Chelsea haven’t beaten Arsenal at Stamford Bridge since August 2018.
Auba up against Arsenal
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could face the Gunners for the first time since his four-year spell with the club came to an end in February, after the striker was stripped of the captaincy by head coach Mikel Arteta. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, however, Potter was reluctant to focus on Aubameyang’s reunion with the North Londoners.
“I don’t think we should make it about him,” the Chelsea boss said. “It’s about the team. He’s an important part of the team, but for us to get the result we want it takes everybody, not just one person.
“But I understand that the headlines and the interest is around him, because it’s Arsenal and there’s a narrative around that. There’s nothing we can do about that.
Possible Chelsea XI vs Arsenal:
Mendy; Chalobah, Silva, Koulibaly; Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Cucurella; Mount, Aubameyang, Sterling.
